Nicholas Feltron
"Nicholas Felton spends much of his time thinking about data, charts and our daily routines. He is the author of many Personal Annual Reports that weave numerous measurements into a tapestry of graphs, maps and statistics reflecting the year’s activities. He was one of the lead designers of Facebook's timeline and the co-founder of Daytum.com."
2006 Annual Report

I really like the two colours plus stock appearance of this report, I feel like I am going for this style in my own brief. I also like the way the colour (yellow) overlays the text it looks really striking and it draws you in.
There is a mixture of info graphics in the form of charts to the use of type as info graphics.
I also like the look of this map the way there are no outlines just colour. And how it could be used either way, to highlight the land mass by using the colour or highlighting the water to make the land mass the negative space.
(Type as the info graphic)
2007 Annual Report
A similar style to the previous report, however I do prefer the report above I think that this one contains a lot more information on one page and it is very structured.
2008 Annual Report
In this report, the pages work together and he has created a fractal diamond look in this piece. He hasn't used black at all which is quite different. The colour scheme does work, I think if this was printed there could be some issues with the images showing through the other side of the paper as they would be heavy with dark ink. Whereas above the main colour is light and not full bleed.
This spread is from the 2011 Annual Report, I like the spikes come out of the map areas it makes it seem more dramatic, there is a use of pink, blue and purple in this report, again instead of black.
"This report examines a year of Nicholas Felton’s communication data. It aspires to uncover patterns and insights within the data and metadata of a large and personal data set. Sources include conversations, SMS, telephone calls, email, Facebook messages and physical mail."
I feel that this report is very intricate and detailed, for me it seems quite complex to follow, in comparison to the 2006 report I think this one is overly detailed. I'm also unsure on the colour scheme, again this wouldn't work as a digital print, it would have to be screen printed onto that colour of stock I imagine.
As well as doing his own personal reports he has done work for a lot of other people including:
Wired
Build Conference
(Belfast Beer Map)
I think that the green works better as the main colour rather than the grey like in the 2008 report. Also I like how the main area of the map is included by not being in colour i.e. the white area.
