Book 3
After the crit we had discussed how my third book, which will be about my personal interests will be very minimal, and contain photography of said interests and inspirations.
I decided I would try incorporate some of my own images, which further reflects my own interest in each topic that I have defined and it also has been done by me, which is for a book reflecting myself, and so I think that it is highly appropriate.
Other images will be sourced from online, where I will use my own photographs I will state and when it isn't stated it is not an image of my own.
The book also reflects my interest in layout and the use of space.

Spreads
Front Cover
On the front cover is a photograph of my own taken of the time wheel in Budapest, Hungary, I felt that this was appropriate as it is a book about my interest it represents time as in my life as time.
I also dropped the opacity of the image as I will be printing onto a different type of stock, and I wanted it to be slightly visible.
Contents
The contents set out the sections of my interests and there is a small caption at the bottom of the page which describes the image on the front.
Travel
I have a strong interest in travel, and I would like to go all over the world in the future. I chose the first image which is a panorama I captured whilst I was in Turkey on a trip to Cleopatra Island, I feel like this picture is captivating, and I like that it stretches across the page, a small caption contextualises the image, but there is just that type and the space around is almost like a viewing window.
I like that I caught a bit of the boat in the image as I feel like it puts the viewer in a first person position just like I once was.
I then chose this image at a castle in Budapest, I chose this image again as it shows scale, but it also shows my interest in history and architecture which really inspired me to travel.
I then chose this image as it is city based unlike the previous too, I like to balance travel and life with the city and the countryside, urban and rural.
Culture
Culture also fascinates me, as culture can define the way something or a place looks, I didn't have any images that clearly defined this idea and so I thought about the idea of culture itself and how the two main definite categories Western and Eastern, I find both inspiring and I put them both into practice in my work for instance my interest in paper forms, is informed by origami which is eastern.
And so the images show this. I chose the western image from an experience I had already been to but not captured as good an image, and the second I chose the opposite, a person in Eastern culture, which is well known.
Residential Architecture
I really like architecture, but in particular homes and houses, I find that this is my area of interest within this discipline, and I really like everything surrounding house building.
Residential Interior Design
As well as the above interior design for homes is another strong interest, and so I decided to show this through some images I had saved on pinterest.
History
I really enjoy history and I always have done from when I was younger. I studied history right the way through school until I left to do my ND in design.
In the images, which are all of my own there are three different locations, with three different time periods, I think that this represents my interest in all history and it secondly shows again travel and architecture.
Nature/ Environment
As for nature and environment I firstly selected an image of my own, where I am on some stepping stones at Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire, I love going outdoors for walks and I like when you can get as close to natural as possible and on these stones the river ran all around you almost like you where on the water itself, this also reminds me of the day itself and it is a really good memory.
I then selected another image which shows another place in Yorkshire, Brimham rocks, which I visited as a child but also last year, this isn't my own image as I didn't have any of the time I went as it was really dark and rainy.
I chose these images as it shows that I like the countryside, and in particular Yorkshire and my fondness of Yorkshire being born here I think it is always in my heart.
Animals
Another strong interest of mine is animals, the images on the first double page spread represents my fondest for wild and domestic animals, in particular some of my favourites within these categories, elephants and cats. I also think these images are tonally similar and compliment each other on the page.
The second double page spread shows my third part of animals and nature, which is the ocean. When I went to Sharm El Sheikh last year we went scuba diving this experience was surreal, Sharm is one of the best places in the world to scuba dive and you could see why.
I would love to do more diving in the future, and I would love to see a turtle first hand as they are probably my favourite sea creature, and one of the oldest creatures in the world.
I think in design terms the sea and nature is inspiring as there are different forms, textures, colours and this can inform my practice.
Film
An indoor activity that I particularly enjoy is film. I love watching films, I really like the director Christopher Nolan his films are different and interesting they make you think and question, as well as being extremely ambitious visually.
His films have influenced projects I have done throughout my three years at Leeds College of Art.
Not just this though, Harry Potter is an obvious one for my generation, I grew up reading and watching the series and I think that after going on the studio tour last year I appreciated the huge amount of effort and detail within the set design, it was amazing, I think that the ideas of magic from the book where completely brought to life and very successful.
However I enjoy most films and I have an interest in some other directors too.
Television
Alongside films I love to watch TV series, again they capture me, I think it is because they aren't real and they are dramatic, I really like the twists of the story.
For instance on this page I show an image from the Walking Dead, a show that I have watched for over four years. And then on the right an illustration of a character from Game of Thrones, which is the probably the most popular series on tv right now, I think again like Harry Potter it is based upon books and I think that this makes for a great story, and it fascinated me that one person can imagine an entire world and set of people.
I also think that tv and film inspires me as the scenes, sets, costumes etc are different and interesting.
The back cover titles the book, and I will do this for all of my publications.
